ASHEVILLE, N.C. — A 45-year-old man has been arrested and charged following a shooting that left a woman critically injured early Tuesday morning in Asheville, according to police.
Authorities said Kevin Hyatt, 45, was taken into custody just hours after the incident. He has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and stalking in connection with the shooting. Police indicated that additional charges may be forthcoming as the investigation continues.
The shooting occurred at approximately 7:50 a.m. at a business located near the 800 block of Fairview Road, officers said. When Asheville police arrived at the scene, they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound to her shoulder.
Emergency responders provided immediate aid before transporting the victim to Mission Hospital for treatment. Police confirmed that the woman remains in critical condition.
Investigation and Arrest
According to investigators, Hyatt was identified as a suspect shortly after the shooting. Law enforcement officials launched an immediate search, leading to his arrest within hours of the incident. Police have not released details about how Hyatt was located or whether the shooting stemmed from a prior relationship or dispute between the suspect and the victim.
