Garvin Doran Obituary Kentucky: In Loving Memory Of 79-Year-Old Man Who Didn’t Make It Out Of State Route 303 House Fire

GRAVES COUNTY, Ky. — One person was killed and another seriously injured following a residential fire Sunday morning in Graves County, just north of the Tennessee state line.

According to authorities, 911 calls were received at approximately 11:20 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 25, reporting a house fire at 12865 State Route 303. The home is located several miles north of the Tennessee border.

Firefighters with the Cuba Fire Department responded to the scene, battling nearly impassable road conditions and temperatures in the low teens. By the time crews arrived, the residence was fully engulfed and ultimately declared a total loss.

Investigators said the homeowners, 79-year-old Garvin R. Doran and his wife, 81-year-old Faye Doran, were able to escape the home as the fire broke out. Mr. Doran reportedly told his wife he needed to re-enter the residence to retrieve something. He did not return.

Officials noted the couple used a wood stove as a heating source.

Faye Doran was transported by Mayfield Graves County Ambulance Service to Jackson Purchase Medical Center and was later transferred to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, where she remains in serious condition.

Firefighters searched for Mr. Doran for several hours in extreme cold. The search was suspended Sunday evening due to darkness and resumed Monday morning. At approximately 12:05 p.m., firefighters, along with Graves County Coroner Brad Jones and sheriff’s deputies, located Mr. Doran’s body inside the residence. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials described the incident as tragic and extended condolences to the Doran family, while also recognizing the efforts of the Cuba Fire Department for their response under severe weather conditions.

The fire and death remain under investigation by the Graves County Coroner’s Office and the Graves County Sheriff’s Office.
